About 2023

My journey with UPFRONT started in 2016 when I got tired of seeing mostly men on stage.

At a conference one day in Bristol, I thought, fuck it. I have been complaining about this for a long time. I wanna try and do something about it. So I talked about it in my speech and I put a post-it note in the women's toilets and said, why are you not going on stage? I didn't understand. I couldn't understand why you weren't on the stage telling your story, and so I wanted to start that conversation.

I wanted to ask the question, because nobody was even talking about gender in these spaces in 2016. Nobody was talking about all male panels or sexism or systemic oppression.

I wanted to amplify women's voices, so UPFRONT was born.

UPFRONT has a community of 5000+ women, we’re on the eighth cohort of our 6-week online course - the Bond - and we help women and businesses all over the world discover what confidence looks like for them.

We're changing how we view confidence – from something oddly aggressive to something that's all about embracing who you are.

Lauren’s Ted X Talk | 2016

Scottish designer Lauren Currie passionately believes in better. She has identified that our stages aren’t looking as diverse as they should be; that they are unequal and inaccessible. Here she presents #Upfront, her new initiative to change the conversation around conference curation and attendance by inviting keynote speakers to share their stage, and their power. Joining her on the stage, her guests seek to develop greater confidence and new found courage by facing an audience head on from the safety of Lauren’s red sofa.
